Firstly, check the vehicle for any pre-existing trouble codes and make the appropriate repairs. Inspect the PCB system. Inspect the engine for any damaged hoses that could cause a vacuum leak. Special attention should be given to the PCV system, oil dipstick, and filler cap seals for damage.

Disconnect the negative battery terminal for 30 seconds to reset the onboard computer. Do not perform the relearn if the service engine soon light is on and codes related to the mass airflow sensor, manifold absolute pressure, or incorrect idle speed are found. If everything is in order, we can begin. Third, turn off all accessories such as the air conditioning, rear window defogger, radio, and heater blower to prevent a load on the engine which would cause erroneous positioning of the throttle plate.

Finally, make sure the front wheels of the vehicle are in the neutral position pointing straight ahead. We are now ready to perform the required relearn procedure. Make sure the accelerator pedal is fully released. Turn the ignition switch on without starting the engine for at least 2 seconds.

Turn the ignition switch off for at least 10 seconds. Again, turn the ignition on for at least 2 seconds. Turn the ignition off for at least 10 seconds. This action will inform the computer on the new release position of the accelerator pedal and the closed position.

Turn the ignition switch on and wait 3 seconds. Immediately after the 3 seconds, the accelerator pedal must be pressed and released 5 times within 5 seconds.

Wait 7 seconds and fully press the accelerator pedal and hold for approximately 20 seconds until the check engine light stops blinking and stays on.

There are a couple of different things that it may be. Already checked for vacuum leaks, none apparent. There still may be code stored even though the light is not on. I would check for codes and then continue. You say it was being restored? Was the engine gone through? Maybe there are some vacuum lines misrouted, or something plugged in, in the wrong spot. So, i unplugged the o2 sensor, the idle smoothed out. I had a 84 PU with the Z24 motor and had that problem off and on for a while.

Do the exhaust plugs have spark? I prefer WD, but same idea. Have you done this? Any vacuum leak that goes to the intake will cause the idle to. It's a most effective way to check. I don't trust visual inspections; it's too easy to miss a tiny crack. Had a thought it's been years since I worked on a Z24 so bear with me I believe you have a vacuum advance distributor I did.

Make sure the line is hooked up and not cracked. Check vacuum at the distributor end of the line. Does the truck run any different with the line on or off? Hook up the line the the distributor and apply vaccum yeah, suck it!! Does it hold a vacuum checking the diaphram? I think you get what I mean If you are not getting timing advance upon acceleration, it may stumble like you are experiencing I am having similar problems with mine erratic idling, poor acceleration, stalling on de-acceleration.

Cleaning the throttle body is actually an uncomplicated process for which some repair shops charge a hefty price. You can perform this task at home with the proper steps and a few tips. Locate the throttle body. Follow the air intake tube towards the engine and you will find square piece of metal connected to the engine.

This is the throttle body. Remove the air tube from the throttle body by loosening the clamp, with a screwdriver, and pulling the hose off. Disconnect the electrical harness that is connected to the throttle body by pressing the locking button and pulling it off. Loosen the four bolts around the throttle body with a ratchet and socket.

Pull the throttle body from the engine. Remove the accelerator cable by lining the cable up with the slot in the guide and pushing the cable through that slot. Spray the inside of the throttle body with the cleaner and scrub it with a toothbrush. Wipe the throttle body with a rag. Make certain to open the internal flap and clean under it. Repeat this step until it is shining.

Put the accelerator cable back into the slot on the throttle body and run it through the guide. Put the throttle body back on the engine and torque the bolts, with a torque wrench and socket, to the manufacturer specifications in the repair manual for your specific model Nissan. Put the harness back into the throttle body by pushing it in until it clicks into place.

Push the air intake hose back onto the throttle body and tighten it with a screwdriver until it is snug. Start the vehicle and allow it to warm up. Pay close attention to the idle speed of the engine.
